No Free Health Care in Singapore

“There is no free health care in Singapore.” Says Health Minister of Singapore.

As the medical fees are getting more expensive nowadays, citizen of Singapore are complaining for free health care in Singapore. However, the Health Minister of Singapore insists on no free health care in Singapore. He claims that if health care is going to be free, then the citizens of Singapore would not be aware of the importance of their own heath and would take their own health for granted.

I totally agree with his statement. Although countries like Australia might have free health care, it does not mean that their citizens would be like the Singaporeans. If one does not take care of their own health properly like they fight and when they play soccer they play in a very rough way, when they get very seriously injured until their injury is incurable, they would regret forever. Australians know the importance of their health. Therefore, Singaporeans must learn from them if they want to have free health in Singapore. However, I think that the Health Minister of Singapore should spare a thought for those who are poor. If they get sick, they would have no money to pay the medical fees. Therefore, I would suggest that the health minister of Singapore to give free health care to only those who are needy.

  1. I do not actually agree with you, Yiwei. I think that free healthcare for everyone is better than only for the needy. Does anyone want to get injurd at all? Free healthcare will benefit everyone, especially taking into consideration that the private doctors may be overcharging and the queues in polyclinics are very long. Some of the people, after they got a disease like SARS, did not bother to see a doctor as it was expensive. That's how SARS spreaded. So, I plead the government to give free healthcare, if not at least decrease the fees of medication.
