The teacher was fierce,
her look was scary,
we had no choice
but to listen intently.

The clock slowly tick away,
ever so slow.
My stomach was groaning with hunger,
and it was one more minute left, RECESS!

The aroma of fried rice
wafted into my nostrils,
and into my stomach it goes!

Back to class,
and study!
Droaning of teacher's voice,
and the unbearable heat in class.
BOREDOM!

At last the bell rung,
carried my bag,
and home sweet home!
The bag was heavier, much heavier,
with tons of homework in it.

Poetry

There is another sky by Emily Dickinson

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields -
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!

This writer uses hyperbole method, like “another sky”, “another sunshine”, “ever serene and fair”, “leaves are ever green” and “unfading flowers”. All this words are sort of exaggerating and that is why it is hyperbole. The poet uses this method to write this poem because he or she wanted to invoke an emotion or a language to the reader.

I like this poem because I feel that I really can understand what the writer is trying to tell us. This also means that the poet has succeeded in his work. I always loved nature, and the poet wrote all the little things that he or she observed in nature though that may not be the point which he or she is trying to tell us. This poet also described the garden as if a heavenly place and all the sentence which she writes flows very naturally. Therefore, among all the poems, I like this poem most as it is short and sweet.

No Free Health Care in Singapore

“There is no free health care in Singapore.” Says Health Minister of Singapore.

As the medical fees are getting more expensive nowadays, citizen of Singapore are complaining for free health care in Singapore. However, the Health Minister of Singapore insists on no free health care in Singapore. He claims that if health care is going to be free, then the citizens of Singapore would not be aware of the importance of their own heath and would take their own health for granted.

I totally agree with his statement. Although countries like Australia might have free health care, it does not mean that their citizens would be like the Singaporeans. If one does not take care of their own health properly like they fight and when they play soccer they play in a very rough way, when they get very seriously injured until their injury is incurable, they would regret forever. Australians know the importance of their health. Therefore, Singaporeans must learn from them if they want to have free health in Singapore. However, I think that the Health Minister of Singapore should spare a thought for those who are poor. If they get sick, they would have no money to pay the medical fees. Therefore, I would suggest that the health minister of Singapore to give free health care to only those who are needy.

Increasing Numbers of Underage Drinking

Nowadays, more and more teenagers and adolescent are being caught for underage drinking. Why is this so? This is because those selling beer and alcohol does not care and does not bother to check if the people are below 18 years old although they know that this is against the law. They only cared if the teenagers could afford to pay the money for the beer. If the teenagers get drunk, they could get into brawls. Teenage girls that get drunk could also get raped or being physically bullied by other people. Therefore, I sat that this shopkeepers that sells beer and alcohol are being very irresponsible.

However, I am not blaming the entire fault on these shopkeepers. The teenagers have to be blamed too. These teenagers are surely aware that underage drinking is not allowed in Singapore. However, they still drink when they are underage. The reason behind this is simply because they did not study well and often failed their exams, therefore, they think that everything is over and drown their sorrow in beer and alcohol. Most people would think that their parents are at fault too. However, in most of the time, their parents do not know where they are going as they just say that they are going out with their friends. Let us go back to the topic again. Why are there an increasing amount of teenagers drinking when they are underage? In my opinion, I think that this is because the standard of the exams are getting harder and harder and thus, more teenagers are failing their exams and felt that they have no potential in studying and gave up.

E-Resource Feature Focus: History

I think that this type of learning is much better than just memorizing the facts. If one only memorize the facts because of marks, he or she would be probably bored of memorizing after a while unless that person find any interesting facts that he or she would be interested in looking for more information on that particular fact. However, in this case, one is not being forced to memorize facts because it is being tested or marks were being allocated to that particular topic. Contradictory, one is just reading casually about the history of countries and therefore, one would most probably find interest in doing this type of reading as there are no marks allocated so there would be no stress and one also would benefit from it as he or she would learn more about the history and would look for more information himself.

However, as this website does not cite external sources of information and is single-handedly maintained by Russell Tarr, the Head of History at the International School of Toulouse, therefore, students are needed to exercise their good judgment when referring to these resources. Most students might think that this is very troublesome. However, through exercising good judgments, they would also develop critical thinking skills, which would help them in answering inference questions in Integrated Humanities. Therefore, I think that learning like this is much efficient than learning in the school as this is active learning but in school, most of the time we would only memorize facts.

Dear all,
I think that we should have more of this NLB Book Exchange event. It benefits us a lot. As it allows the public to exchange their used books and share their passion for reading with one another, it will certainly make people learn how to appreciate books and develop a reading passion. Young students like us certainly need motivation to read more books especially chinese books as they are less read and not appreciated. Therefore, students tend to read more english books and dislike chinese books. I hope events like this will promote the reading of chinese books. This event also supports the call to adopt a green lifestyle through environment-friendly practices, such as recycling and reducing wastage which is very good as the global warming is getting worse and worse and getting out of control. This event would certainly let people know that the environment is very important as we were told to bring our own plastic bags. However, I think that we seriously need more activities like this as the temperature is rising at a very fast rate, causing the polar caps to melt. We need to let people know the importance of the environment as quick as possible as many people are still non-environmental friendly and if it goes on like this, the condition of the global warming would worsen. Therefore, having more of events are certainly very important as it benefits people in many many ways!

Thinkings on library week

Dear all,
I think that we should have more of events like this as it benefits us a lot. It allows the public to exchange their used books and share their passion for reading with one another, it will certainly make people learn how to appreciate books and develop a reading passion. It also is a good way of recycling books that are to be thrown away(maybe). Nowadays, young students like us certainly need motivation to read more books especially chinese books as they are less read and not appreciated. Therefore, students tend to read more english books and dislike chinese books. I hope events like this will promote the reading of chinese books. For the part on games, I am also very supportive as it bonds students together. However, if students treat this very competitively, this games would not end up nice as students would be angry or be a sore-loser if they lose. I am also very pleased with the donation part. we must support people that are old, disabled or poor that needs help. They are very pitiful and there should be more activities of this kind that promotes donation. Having all these events, the library is very active.
